Iowa ethanol advocates and farmers urged Gov. Kim Reynolds to veto House File 639—a bill that passed the Senate on May 12 and restricts carbon sequestration pipelines—because it would impose strict insurance rules and a 25-year operating limit that critics say will hurt ethanol projects. Council Bluffs-based SIRE said the bill will hinder its plans to capture CO2 by mid 2026 and may lead to plant closures.
