- ➤ The Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation awarded $525,000 in scholarships to about 125 students in Southwest Iowa during a recent ceremony—honoring their academic achievements—and the awards will help them pay for college. The Daily Nonpareil
- ➤ The Council Bluffs Schools Foundation provided a record-breaking $83,000 in classroom grants to support 104 projects across the Council Bluffs Community School District—this funding will help update classroom resources. The Daily Nonpareil
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Iowa ethanol advocates and farmers urged Gov. Kim Reynolds to veto House File 639—a bill that passed the Senate on May 12 and restricts carbon sequestration pipelines—because it would impose strict insurance rules and a 25-year operating limit that critics say will hurt ethanol projects. Council Bluffs-based SIRE said the bill will hinder its plans to capture CO2 by mid 2026 and may lead to plant closures. The Daily Nonpareil
