  • Nominations are open for the second annual Coolest Thing Made in Iowa competition that highlights products made by local manufacturers—entries must be submitted by April 18. The contest, hosted by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry and MidWestOne, invites employees, consumers and others to nominate innovative products.  WOWT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A survey by the Iowa Business Council shows that leaders of major companies are less positive about the economy and now expect lower sales, reduced capital spending and fewer hires in the coming months — even though most remain in the positive range overall. They hope to work with policymakers as uncertainty grows.  WOWT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials met with residents in Oakland on April 3 to discuss rising property assessments, tax changes, and projects including a streetcar study and road repairs—officials explained that properties are first valued at full market rate before adjustments. Representatives from Emergency Management, the Sheriff’s Office, and Planning provided updates on upcoming projects and urged residents to review their property values if they have questions.  The Daily Nonpareil

  • The Alzheimer's Association Iowa Chapter is hosting a free morning session (led by Dr. Anna Fisher for caregivers) on Alzheimer's, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease in Council Bluffs. The session will offer essential education to help attendees understand these conditions.  The Daily Nonpareil

  • Regency Homes’ president Denny Van Moorleghem said today that potential hikes on Canadian lumber taxes and fees could add up to $10,000 to home prices at the Founders Ridge development in Sarpy County—he advised buyers to act quickly as the U.S. will raise lumber duties from 14.5% to 34.45%.  KETV
