COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former Lincoln Mayor and Council Bluffs native Coleen Seng, known for her personal warmth and long public service — serving as mayor from 2003 to 2007 and as a city council member for 16 years — died Monday surrounded by her family at age 89.  KETV
  • Pottawattamie County launched a warm clothing drive yesterday — the Wellness Committee asked residents to donate new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and other winter essentials to help neighbors facing hardship. Donations will be accepted at the courthouse, secondary roads center, jail, and public health office until February 28.  Pottawattamie County
  • Riverside teacher Jill Weathers is offering a free clothing swap for families at holiday concerts to help families and bring the community together — she said the event is designed to offer affordable clothing options and strengthen local bonds.  The Daily Nonpareil

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Riverside Community School District received a STEM BEST grant to launch its drone designers program+ the program will offer hands-on drone building and flying opportunities for students when the new term begins.  The Daily Nonpareil
  • Local business owner Angela Fritz of Independent Investment Real Estate Group LLC donated $8,000 to the Riverside Community School District's Riverside PRIDE Capital Campaign to support capital improvement projects.  The Daily Nonpareil

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa Finance Authority gave over $333,000 to two Council Bluffs homeless shelters as part of a statewide grant program that distributed more than $5.7 million to help those facing homelessness + improve support services.  The Daily Nonpareil

HEALTH NEWS

  • Methodist Health will host a Stuff the Truck food and toy drive on Thursday — from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. — at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Medical Plaza in Council Bluffs where community members can drop off donations.  The Daily Nonpareil
