- ➤ Animals at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo will help remove invasive plants from a 300-acre prairie preserve in Council Bluffs today as part of a new partnership with the Nature Conservancy (zoo staff will cut off invasive branches) and bring them back for elephants and giraffes to eat (supporting a natural diet similar to their wild feeding habits). - ➤ U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley recognized Four Oaks Family and Children's Services with the Angels in Adoption award from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute for its work helping families. The Daily Nonpareil
- ➤ Pottawattamie County now makes over 150 years of Board of Supervisors meeting minutes available online, with records dating back to 1870 now searchable. Residents can review the historical archive — a new tool that helps them follow current and past county decisions. Pottawattamie County
- ➤ On October 2, Moody’s reaffirmed Pottawattamie County’s strong AA1 credit rating, showing that the county managed its finances well and maintained lower borrowing costs. The rating helps save taxpayer money—demonstrating the county’s commitment to responsible governance. Pottawattamie County
- ➤ Candidates running for mayor or city council in Council Bluffs have shared plans to address homelessness—Brandy Wallar of New Visions Homeless Services said many candidate ideas hold misunderstandings of reality. The Daily Nonpareil
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Methodist Health is offering drive-thru flu shot clinics this cold and flu season to help families get vaccinated quickly while staying in their vehicles. The Council Bluffs event at Jennie Edmundson Medical Plaza at 808 E. Pierce St. was held on Oct. 2 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and will return on Oct. 18 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.—additional clinics are scheduled at Omaha locations. KETV
