Good morning, Council Bluffs.

Today, the Council Bluffs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented community service awards to Rhonda Hope of Avoca and Cindy Pittz of Missouri Valley in recognition of their dedication to local service.

Wings of Hope renamed its event—now called the Cathy Nielsen Walk and Talk—to honor longtime supporter Cathy Nielsen.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27.

Local partners will build three affordable bungalows on two empty lots near downtown Council Bluffs, one of which is at the site where a fire killed three people 25 years ago.

Construction will start this fall and last eight months—helping families with incomes up to 80% of the area median income secure a new home.

Council Bluffs will host the U.S. National Chess Championship this weekend—drawing top players to compete at the end of the month in the city.
