COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs announced its home repair program received $30,000 to fix owner-occupied homes and support affordable housing + the funds will help more families maintain safe living conditions.  The Daily Nonpareil
  • Local riders and government officials are planning to reopen the vehicle park on Council Bluffs riverfront after floods, a fire, and management issues forced its closure. The park will be restored in three phases—starting with new trails and a parking lot—and is expected to bring off road fun and tourism back to the area.  The Daily Nonpareil

CRIME NEWS

  • The Council Bluffs Police Department released figures from a Labor Day weekend traffic operation—issuing 269 citations and warnings for speeding and drunk driving and taking four impaired drivers off the streets—and said similar projects will continue in the coming weeks. The operation was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office.  WOWT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Council Bluffs Community School District is asking residents to serve on one of five committees by Sept. 16 to help guide decisions that affect local schools—responses will shape school policies and programs.  The Daily Nonpareil
  • Metropolitan Community College says its Adult Basic Education Program funding is at risk as federal money now comes through a state block grant, which may reduce support for thousands working toward a GED—MCC will know more in spring when funding decisions are finalized.  KETV

  • Six new Council Bluffs police officers have graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy—completing their training and set to join the local police force soon.  The Daily Nonpareil
