Dozens of volunteers from local organizations gathered on Thursday morning at the Salvation Army gymnasium to fill 800 backpacks with school supplies for students across Southwest Iowa.

The Iowa Restaurant Association – which celebrates local hospitality leaders – recognized two Council Bluffs women on its '40 Women to Watch' list, highlighting their impact on local dining businesses.

Parents, children and teachers gathered Tuesday evening at the future home of the new Red Barn Schoolhouse in Crescent.

They toured the charter school's facilities and learned about its plans to benefit local education.
