- ➤ Today, Iowa businesses must join the tax-free weekend (Aug. 1-2) when sales tax is waived on select items and on online or mail purchases. Clothes and shoes under $100, underwear, coats, belts, diapers, and bridal apparel are eligible while jewelry, umbrellas, sports equipment, and backpacks are not. KETV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa Board of Regents approved a new tuition program at UNI on Wednesday—this program lets students from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin pay in-state rates for the 2025–2026 school year and save families over $12,000 annually. UNI says the change will help students access affordable, high-quality education while meeting local job needs. WOWT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa Department of Transportation is rebuilding the Madison Avenue interchange near Valley View Drive and work began in 2022. Traffic shifts will finish by November and the westbound lanes will be done by April 2026—placing the project ahead of its expected schedule. KETV
