EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced that 33 schools, including Council Bluffs Community School District, will receive funds from a $70,000 pilot grant to expand menus and connect students with local farmers. The district will match part of its $5,000 grant with its own funds — an effort that will bring fresh, local products to school cafeterias. KETV

- ➤ State Treasurer Roby Smith urged families to use the ISave 529 plan to save for college as the Iowa Board of Regents will vote next month on tuition hikes at state universities. Smith explained that contributions can grow tax free for up to 18 years (saving $2 a day could yield about $13,000), and funds can cover tuition, fees, room, board, and textbooks but not transportation.
