- ➤ Three area libraries will host summer reading programs soon—Council Bluffs Public Library’s challenge begins June 1, Carter Lake Public Library will launch with a foam party on May 30, and Glenwood Public Library offers a 'Reading Dragons' theme with sign-ups open now. - ➤ The Iowa National Guard held send-off ceremonies across the state to honor nearly 1,800 soldiers deploying to the Middle East—178 of whom left from the MidAmerican Center in Council Bluffs on Wednesday—while Congressman Randy Feenstra attended the event. KETV

- ➤ Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill on Wednesday that will add 115 medical residency slots if federal funds come through—this measure may eventually train up to 460 more doctors and merges the state’s loan repayment programs with an $8 million fund to attract physicians.
