Good morning, Council Bluffs.

New Visions Homeless Services received its largest operational grant—a $300,000 community development grant—from the Iowa Economic Development Authority to expand staff at its emergency shelter serving Council Bluffs residents.

The city council approved the grant earlier this month amid mixed views on paying wages versus enhancing services.

Council Bluffs police credited new technology—automated license plate reading cameras—and full staffing for keeping violent crime low and achieving a year without a homicide, noting that community camera networks have helped detectives track suspects.
