  • Pottawattamie County Public Health will host a free community open house for Council Bluffs residents on Tuesday, June 3 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Public Health Services Building – the event will offer guided tours and staff introductions to highlight a range of public services.  Pottawattamie County
  • Downtown Council Bluffs hosts family events today starting at 8 a.m. in Bayliss Park with Pancake Man serving breakfast and a parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade — with 85 entries and over 1,400 participants — features local bands, dance teams and community groups marching along a route from Ninth Avenue to Story Street.  The Daily Nonpareil

  • Hitchcock Nature Center was ranked as the best tourist attraction in Pottawattamie County—earning the top spot for visitors this year.  The Daily Nonpareil
  • Local historian Richard Warner announced that a new museum of Council Bluffs' general history will open next April 1 at RailsWest History Museum on South Main to showcase the town's rich past. The project— a partnership between the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County and the Union Pacific Museum Association using a $177,000 grant from the Iowa West Foundation— will upgrade the space with historical artifacts and exhibits.  The Daily Nonpareil

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the Missouri River runoff forecast was lowered to 48% of average because water levels remained low and drought worsened in 75% of the basin. The Army Corps of Engineers reduced the forecast by 1.9 million acre-feet—based on April data.  KETV

  • Dr. David Quimby of CHI Health said people spending time outdoors this summer should wear long sleeves and use insect repellent to protect against ticks and mosquito bites—removing a tick quickly can help prevent infections like Lyme disease.  KETV
  • Experts say mental health needs are rising as Boys Town National Hotline received over 79,000 calls in 2024, with nearly half related to mental health struggles.
