Good morning, Council Bluffs.

Pottawattamie County authorities said a car crash near Wabash Avenue and Ashwood Road on Saturday killed Renrenay Thomas when his Hyundai lost control, crossed the center line and hit a Cadillac, and a woman and a 9-year-old in the Cadillac were taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A union representing over 150,000 nursing home caregivers intervened in Iowa's lawsuit filed to block new federal staffing mandates, arguing that increased staffing will ease the national caregiver shortage and improve working conditions.

The new rules, phased in over the next two to three years, require 3.48 hours of direct care per resident daily and 24-hour access to a registered nurse — measures the union believes will reduce worker burnout.
