- ➤ Residents in Council Bluffs have been worried by a series of fires that burned railroad ties near 15th Street and Avenue O and may risk home safety due to dangerous chemicals. Fire crews watered the site Thursday night and CN Rail said Friday that it is working with first responders to determine the cause—neighbors say the fires have been ongoing for months. WOWT

- ➤ A Council Bluffs woman and man were sentenced last week to federal prison for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The Daily Nonpareil
- ➤ A Mexican national was given a 78-month federal prison sentence & faces deportation after being convicted for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Council Bluffs and Omaha. The Daily Nonpareil

- ➤ State Senator Zach Wahls said he is considering a U.S. Senate run in 2026 and will decide after the current session ends in April or May—he also called on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign over a group text that risked national security. WOWT
- ➤ Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig visited Shelby and Pottawattamie counties during Iowa Agriculture Week to inspect levee repairs following floods in 2011 and 2019—local officials said improvements reduced damage from a 2024 flood and urged more investments to protect against future flooding. - ➤ All Care Health Center in Council Bluffs is now licensed by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services to provide treatment for substance use disorder. The Daily Nonpareil
- ➤ Emergency Management warned residents that flooding can cause serious damage since just six inches of water may sweep a person away and a foot can carry a vehicle.
