  • Siena Francis House is asking for donations after a power outage that left them without power and will not be restored until next week. The shelter needs protein, ground beef, turkey, ham, towels, linens, hygiene products, and plastic cups to help serve its clients.  KETV
  • A Council Bluffs woman won the top prize in the PAC-MAN scratch game after buying her winning ticket at Casey’s at 2711 S. 14th St. — she claimed her prize on March 3 at lottery headquarters in Clive.  The Daily Nonpareil

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Iowa House unanimously passed a bill that requires hospitals to give patients leaving involuntary commitment a 15-day supply of medication and written follow-up instructions—lawmakers say it will help stop repeated hospitalizations and homelessness among those with mental illness. The bill also mandates that hospitals notify the court and family members about upcoming discharges.  WOWT
  • Omaha Public Power District reported that a blizzard on March 19 left 22,920 customers without power as of 8:40 a.m., and the company said 1,000 utility poles will need to be replaced. Crews worked to repair severe damage in rural areas — heavy snow and strong winds knocked down many poles as restoration efforts continued.  KETV
