EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Parkview Heights Elementary in La Vista received a $2,500 grant from KETV and Thrasher Foundation Repair to pay for flexible seating, emotional regulation kits, and percussion tools for music classes. The grant will benefit about 400 students (from Cash in for Schools) and invites teachers to apply for future awards. KETV
- ➤ The Iowa Council of the United Blind offers a $2,500 one-year scholarship (2026-27 academic year) for eligible students. Local applicants should look for details on requirements and deadlines soon. The Daily Nonpareil
- ➤ Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer visited Lewis Central Middle School to celebrate STEM excellence (honoring Dustan Kern as the 2025 STEM Teacher Award recipient for the Southwest Iowa STEM Region). The Daily Nonpareil
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ During American Heart Month, CHI Health doctor Meg Begley reported that more young patients are showing signs of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes linked to lifestyle habits (including energy drinks, supplements and vaping) and advised that those with chest pressure or palpitations see a doctor. - ➤ A blood donation drive will be held Thursday in Westside during Heart Health Month so residents can help support heart surgeries and emergency treatments. The Daily Nonpareil
- ➤ Southwest Iowa Transit Agency received $50,000 to start its SWI-Ride pilot program (aimed at improving access to local health care) in partnership with Methodist Jennie Edmundson and CHI Mercy hospitals. The Daily Nonpareil
