About this event

Writers Workshop for Kids: Food Writing Every recipe tells a story. Bring a favorite family recipe and join us as we explore the connections between food, memory and identity through writing. We'll read examples of food writing, discuss how meals and traditions shape our lives, and create our own pieces inspired by the people, places, and stories gathered around our dinner tables. No writing experience necessary - just bring your curiosity and a recipe to share. Teaching Artist Bio: Zedeka Poindexter spends her days helping people find their voices and her evenings deciding what to make for dinner. A writer, performer, and North Omaha native, she has spent decades collecting stories from stages, classrooms, community spaces, and family gatherings. She believes poetry and cooking have a lot in common: both require a little creativity, a few good ingredients, and the courage to share something of yourself with others. Ask her about spoken word, family recipes, or what's growing in her garden, and you're likely to get a story. This is a free event for children ages 8-12. Registration is required and opens October 1st. Please call or email to register. All Omaha Public Library locations are wheelchair accessible. Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event? Please email Nancy Novotny at to request accommodation. Requests must be made at least five business days before the activity or event.
