About this event

Is an artwork’s cultural value determined by how long it remains in a place, how visible it is, or whether it becomes a lasting part of the built environment? What happens when the value proposition of public artwork extends beyond the object to include the memories, relationships, and shifts in perception a temporary encounter can set in motion?

Join us at the Ashton on Friday, November 13, from 12:00 pm –1:00 pm for a conversation about how temporary public art responds to the changing conditions of a place, and interrupts the routines of everyday life in ways that permanent works may not, with Elise Armani, Assistant Curator for Twentieth Century Art at the Joslyn Art Museum, artist and facilitator Andrea Joy Pearson, choreographer and dancer Lauren Simpson, and theater maker and Amplfiy’s development lead Zoella Sneed. Together, they’ll consider what happens when we stop assuming that lasting longer means mattering more.

Free and open to all. Please RSVP if you’d like to attend to help us plan.
